Heald Cottage

The Heald Cottage is a replication project of the original brick Federal style cape from Wilton, NH.  Features include three working fireplaces rebuilt with brick from the original homestead, wide board pine flooring, and 6/6 true divided light windows using random glazing with old wavy glass from the home.  A Farmer’s porch using the old posts and railings will once again grace the front of what was the old wash shed. Keeping the feel of the shed, the old beams will be exposed and a gourmet kitchen with a pantry, laundry room and mud room. A two carriage shed attached, will be widened for a two car garage with direct access to the kitchen. [Listing details]

Heald Cottage Amenities:

The formal center hall has wide pine flooring and a grand central stairway with antique newel post and banister leading to the second floor.

The formal sitting room is approached off the central entry hall through an arched opening with period trim detail.  There is a Rumford style fireplace with Federal period mantel and wide pine flooring

Opposite the formal sitting room is the dining room with wide pine flooring, wainscoting and Rumford style fireplace surrounded by a Federal period mantel.

At the end of the central hall is a powder room flanked by closets with old raised paneled doors. A hand thrown pottery bowl sits on a piece of antique furniture as its base.

To the left of the central hall is the study with its own Rumford fireplace and Federal period mantel.  The study can also be used as a fourth bedroom.

The family room, with an exterior door leading to the back yard, opens into the kitchen addition.  This addition was a shed room leading to an attached barn in the original home.  Therefore, the design of today’s kitchen reflects its earlier origins, with a beamed cathedral ceiling using hand hewn rafters, 10’ center island with cooktop, semi-custom cabinetry, double ovens and Bosch dishwasher, walk-in pantry, laundry and mud room with. an exterior door leads to the two car attached garage.  The kitchen has ample eat-in space, with an exterior door leading to the Farmer’s porch.

The pine flooring in the kitchen will be painted in a diamond pattern, reflecting the practice in Federal times of painting floors to add color, dimension, and interest to a room.

The back ell addition leading off of the family room is the master bedroom suite.  The bedroom has a patio door leading to the outside back yard, a large walk-in closet, and its own tiled bath with walk-in tiled shower, and an enclosed air-jet tub.

The upstairs has two spacious bedrooms with walk-in closets, and a separate hall bath with pedestal sink, tub/shower with tile surround, and tile floor.
