“Old houses are not ours.

They belong partly to those who built them

and partly to those who follow.”

                                                                           John Ruskin

Custom Builders

with an Antique Twist

We’ve been losing irreplaceable colonial homes. By some estimates Conn. has lost sixty percent of its georgian and federal period homes over the last 100 years, a loss that has probably been repeated throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine and Rhode Island.

As builders of fine custom homes, we locate these endangered structures, dismantle, re-assemble and restore the homestead. Then, working with our clients, the home is designed with whatever the needs of the buyer has. Yes, a new old home is created. Modern amenities are seamlessly added and the homes glow with warmth, comfort, the durability of yesteryear, and classic refinement unparalleled in todays world of new construction. These are truly distinctive homes.

" The Restored Homestead helped create a wonderful home for us, and their creativity and attention to detail was remarkable. We have been enjoying our restored version of the Benjamin Spaulding house for five years now and it is wonderful and warm. I am so grateful we adopted it and made it our own. We have developed a friendship with Sherrill and Holly over the years and keep in touch. As such, we continue to share bits of our lives in the house they created and we made our home. I would recommend Holly, Sherrill, and The Restored Homestead to any and all interested in living in the treasures of the past, and enjoying them today and every day.”

Using the four R's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover the resource

In an effort to save 18th century homes that would otherwise be demolished, TRH dismantles the old homesteads saving timber frames, sheathing, brick, sub-flooring and flooring, wainscot, mantels, doors (both interior and exterior), old glass panes, and wrought iron hardware. Rebuilding the home out of these carefully cleaned and restored materials is about as green as you can get. And in the end, a superior product for the homebuyers.

In the true spirit of the New England Yankee style, “waste not, want not!”
