We initially found the Spaudling house on eBay. The person who had purchased the land wanted to build a new house on that property. When we visited, he had already removed the plaster, so all that remained were the chimney structures, the post and beam structures and floors. We found a contractor who would dismantle the structure, coding each piece for reassembly. Masons from Old Sturbridge Village reconstructed the original fireplaces using the original bricks. New windows were ordered without glass, so the original glass could be inserted in the new windows. All doors were stripped, original hardware was removed, cleaned up, retooled and reinstalled by blacksmiths at The Old Smithy Shop. Appliances were purchased that would work for today's families, and historic colors were chosen to reflect the late 1700's paints.
